Herein we describe a general, mild, and scalable method for hydrodeoxygenation of readily accessible tertiary alkyl oxalates by Zn/silane under Ni-catalyzed conditions. The reduction method is suitable for an array of structural motifs derived from tertiary alcohols that bear diverse functional groups, including the synthesis of a key intermediate en route to estrone.

The invention relates to a production process of bi[4-(2-hydroxyl-2-methyl propionyl)phenyl]methane. According to the production process, diphenylmethane serves as a starting main raw material, iso-butyryl chloride easy to purchase serves as a secondary raw material, and all the materials are subjected to acylation, halogenation and hydrolysis to obtain a target product. The product process needs three steps of reaction to obtain the target product, but in the actual production process, the next step of reaction can be directly conducted only by simple treatment after each step of reaction ends up until the final product is obtained, and an intermediate in each step does not need to be taken out, so the production process is similar to a one-pot method, but does not belongs to the one-pot method. The production process has the advantages that the raw materials are easily available, and production equipment is simple and low in investment; the production process is simple to operate and short in production cycle; the obtained product is snow-white and the content can reach 98.5% or above; the production comprehensive cost is low and the content of the obtained product can reach 98.5% or above; the production comprehensive cost is low and the production process is more suitable for industrialization.
