The oil's principal constituent is cineol, which makes up an average of 45 to 55 percent of its composition. Additional components include solid terpineol, valeric, butyric, and benzoic aldehydes. Cajeput oil is similar in odor to camphor and eucalyptus and is obtained through steam distillation.
