Grapefruit Oil is a yellow, sometimes reddish liquid with a pleasant citrus-like odor and flavor, obtained by cold expression of the fresh peels of the fruit. It is derived from a tree with a rounded and conical head, ovate glabrous leaves, and smooth, gray-brown bark, which is cultivated in various regions including the United States, East Asia, West Indies, Brazil, and Nigeria. Its main constituents include limonene (90%), a volatile fraction containing oxygen compounds and sesquiterpenes (2-3%), a waxy fraction (7-8%), C8 and C10 aldehydes, geraniol, cadinene, small amounts of citral and dimethyl anthranilate, and acids.
