Gurjun balsam is a pathological exudation of the wood from several species of Dipterocarpus (Fam. Dipterocaceae). It is produced mainly in Indonesia and consists almost entirely of sesquiterpene hydrocarbons, with α-gurjunene as its main component. The balsam oil is a yellow, slightly viscous liquid with a weak, wood-like odor.
