The preparation of Q (Q=bulky cation; n=1 or 3, m=1; n=2, m=2) is described and the following reactions are reported: (a) with inorganic acids (HCl or HBF4) to give (n=1 or 3, m=1; n=2, m=2), (b) with to give isocyanides which react with methylamine to give carbene ; and (c) with gold complexes containing readily replaceable ligands to give binuclear (Au-CN-Au) or polynuclear (Au-CN-M) (M=Au or Ag) cyano-bridged complexes.Addition of neutral ligands (Py, Phen or PPh3) to the polynuclear complexes leads to mononuclear complexes (L=neutral ligands, n=2 or 3).The assignment of the structures are based on the IR spectra of the complexes.
