We show that a number of 4-substituted isoxazoles (4-cyano, 4-ethoxycarbonyl) can be prepared efficiently from either triformylmethane or its trisdimethylimino precursor.We also report the preparation of cyano(formyl)acetamidine, a compound containing three different functional groups attached to one carbon atom.

The isolation, characterization and an efficient synthesis of 4-hydroxyisoxazole 1, a plant growth regulator isolated from an African plant is reported.It is a new compound, which despite the simple structure, had eluded synthesis.
