8064-90-2 Usage
Uses
Used in Pharmaceutical Industry:
SMZ/TMP is used as an antibiotic for treating a variety of bacterial infections, including urinary tract infections, respiratory infections, and skin infections. It is particularly effective against gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria, such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Streptococcus pneumoniae.
However, it is important to note that Pseudomonas aeruginosa, a common bacteria, has shown a drug-resistant rate of 66% in the years 2010-2013. This highlights the need for ongoing research and development of new antibiotics to combat drug-resistant bacteria and ensure the continued effectiveness of SMZ/TMP in treating bacterial infections.
World Health Organization (WHO)
The combination of sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim (5:1) was
introduced in 1971 for the treatment of a wide variety of bacterial infections. Its use
has been associated with severe sensitivity reactions, many of which have been
attributed to the sulphonamide component. Elderly people seem to be more
vulnerable. The World Health Organization has no information further to the above
concerning restrictive action taken on this combination.
Side effects
Trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole on a daily basis has a rapid onset of action
but has rare associated side effects of bone marrow suppression and toxic
epidermal necrolysis (TEN).Nausea, vomiting, and anorexia are generally dose related.
Hypersensitivity reactions (including Stevens-Johnson syndrome and hematologic
reactions) occur in <5% of patients.
Dosage forms
One to two tablets a day. Trimethoprim is dosed at 200 mg/24 hours
given either q.d. or b.i.d.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 8064-90-2 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 8,0,6 and 4 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 9 and 0 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 8064-90:
(6*8)+(5*0)+(4*6)+(3*4)+(2*9)+(1*0)=102
102 % 10 = 2
So 8064-90-2 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
