Catalytic carbonylation of benzylic and allylic bromides by a rhodium zwitterionic complex under phase transfer catalysis conditions
Amaratunga, Shiyamalie,Alper, Howard
, p. 25 - 28 (2007/10/03)
The zwitterionic rhodium complex, (COD)Rh(η6-C6H5BPh3) (1), can catalyze the carbonylation of benzylic and allylic bromides in the presence of 5 N NaOH and CH2Cl2 at atmospheric pressure and 40 deg C, with (C6H13)4N+ HSO4- as the phase transfer catalyst, to give carboxylic esters as the major products. CATALYTIC PHASE TRANSFER CARBONYLATION OF BENZYL HALIDES WITH IRON PENTACARBONYL.
Tanguy, Guy,Weinberger, Berndt,Abbayes, Herve des
, p. 4005 - 4008 (2007/10/02)
Benzyl halides are readily carbonylated to arylacetic acids in a two-phase system (aqueous sodium hydroxide (1M), tetrabutylammonium sulfate ; organic phase (CH2Cl2 or C6H6 or C6H5CH3)), using a catalytic amount of the cheap, easy to handle iron pentacarbonyl under carbon monoxide atmosphere.
