Salicylaldehyde picolinoyl hydrazone (C5H4NCONHN=CHC6H4OH, SPH) forms complexes of the type RnSnX(4-n)SPH (where R = Ph or Bu, n = 0 or 1, X = Cl, Br or I) and RSnX2(SPH-H) (where R = Ph, X = Cl or NCS).The complexes have been characterised by elemental analyses, molar conductivity, IR, electronic and PMR spectral measurements. The log K values of the adducts, calculated from their carbonyl stretching frequencies, have been correlated with the magnitudes of negative shift in carbonyl stretching frequency on coordination.
