Phosphonic acid bis(α-methylhydrazides) react with ortho esters of carboxylic acids to give 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-1,2,4,5-tetraaza-3-phosphorine derivatives, which are oxidized to give 1,2,3,4-tetrahydro-1,2,4,5-tetraaza-3-phosphorin-1-yl free radicals.
