Cyclopeltenyl Acetate: A Novel Tetracyclic Triterpene from Heartwood of Macaranga peltata Muell.

The structure of cyclopeltenyl acetate, a novel tetracyclic cyclotriterpene, isolated from the heartwood of Macaranga peltata Muell., has been deduced as 24-methyl-21-nor-Δ25-cycloartenyl acetate (I) by a study of its chemical reactions and spectral data (IR, PMR and mass). β-Sitosterol, n-octacosanol and a few other known triterpenes, like α- and β-amyrins, lupeol and betulin have also been isolated and characterised.
