General Description

PTH-4-HYDROXYPROLINE, also known as parathyroid hormone 4-hydroxyproline, is a chemical compound that plays a crucial role in bone metabolism and calcium homeostasis. It is a derivative of the amino acid proline and is produced in the parathyroid glands. PTH-4-HYDROXYPROLINE functions as a hormone in the body, regulating calcium and phosphate levels in the blood by stimulating osteoclast activity to release calcium from bone and increasing renal tubular reabsorption of calcium. It also plays a role in the formation and maintenance of bone by promoting osteoblast proliferation and differentiation. Imbalances in PTH-4-HYDROXYPROLINE levels can lead to bone disorders such as osteoporosis or abnormalities in calcium metabolism.
