For the case of symmetrical carbocyanine dyes it was shown that substituents at position 6 in the benzoindole ring cause the greatest deepening of the color.Experimental data on the action of substituents on the color are confirmed by quantum-chem,ical caclulations.The elongation of the polymethine chain of benzoindole dyes by one vinylene group deepens the color by 100 nm.
