82-94-0 Usage
Description
Methyl Green is a DNA stain used as a tracking dye in acid buffers for electrophoresis. It helps differentiate bacteria and is also a tissue stain for nucleoli and mitochondria in tissues. It is used with Bismarck Brown frequently.
Uses
Methyl Green powder dye is used in various staining methods in microscopy. It is also used with Pyronine Y dye for one stage DNA (green) and RNA (red) staining method. It is also used as a counterstain with other reactions, such as demonstration of enzymatic activity and for mitochondrial staining according to Altmann. Methyl green solution is a suitable counterstain for chloroacetate esterase, nonspecific esterase, alkaline phosphatase, peroxidase, naphthol AS acetate esterase, and acid phosphatase.
Definition
ChEBI: Methylene green is an organic chloride salt having 3,7-bis(dimethylamino)-4-nitrophenothiazin-5-ium as the counterion. It stains nuclei green and is sometimes used as a counterstain to red or purple primary stains. It has a role as a fluorochrome and a histological dye. It contains a 3,7-bis(dimethylamino)-4-nitrophenothiazin-5-ium.
Preparation
chlorine methane and (C.I.Basic Violet 1, C.I. 42535) reaction

Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 82-94-0 includes 5 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 2 digits, 8 and 2 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 9 and 4 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 82-94:
(4*8)+(3*2)+(2*9)+(1*4)=60
60 % 10 = 0
So 82-94-0 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
