The preparation of tetradentate ligands and their use in making a new complex was discussed. The structure of 4 as isomer 4A showed that for the first time the presence of two N-H bonds on the same side as the Ru-H bond in such tetradentate ligand complexes. The formation of cis and trans dihydrides at ruthenium was an alternative explanation which could not be ruled out. Additional evidence for the mechanism of the hydrogenation of ketones catalyzed by tetradentate ligand systems.
