The syntheses of new isopropylsubstituted benzocyclenones are reported.Ultraviolet-spectra of this compounds allow the calculation of the torsion angle of the plane of the carbonyl group relative to the plane of the aromatic system.Torsion angles due to steric interaction between isopropyl group and carbonyl group alone are reported.It is found that the 1H-NMR chemical shift of the tert.H-atom of the isopropyl group may be correlated with the torsion angle according to the McConnell equation.
