The ketenyl tungsten compound W{(η2-C(C6H4Me- 4)C(O)}(CO)(PMe3)(η-C5H5) reacts with Co2(CO)8 to give Co2W(μ3-CC6H4Me- 4)(CO)7(PMe3)(η-C5H 5), and with Rh(C2H4)2(η5-C9H 7) to yield RhW(μ-CC6H4Me-4)(CO)2(PMe 8)(η-C5H5)(η-C9H 7). The molecular structure of the latter has been determined by X-ray crystallography (space group D24 - P212121, a = 9.486 (2) A?, b = 15.693 (6) A?, c = 16.882 (5) A?, Z = 4). Reactions between bis(cycloocta-l,5-diene)platinum and the compounds W{η2-C(C6H4Me-4)C-(O)}(CO)(PR 3)(η-C5H5) (PR3 = PMe3, PPh3, PMe2(CH2Ph), PMe2Ph and PMePh2) have been investigated. The nature of the products varies with the tertiary phosphine, but with PMe3, PMe2(CH2Ph), and PMe2Ph the bimetal complexes PtW{μ-C(C6H4Me-4)C(O))(CO)(PR 3)(η-C8H12)(η-C5H 5) were characterized, and the molecular structure of the trimethylphosphine derivative was established by X-ray crystallography (space group C2H5-P21/c, a = 22.492 (7) A?, b = 12.241 (6) A?, c = 20.430 (7) A?, β= 106.07 (3)°, Z = 8). Spectroscopic data (IR and 1H, 31P{1H}, 13C{1H}, and 196Pt{1H}NMR) for all new compounds are reported and discussed.
