[MediaObject not available: see fulltext.]Octahydroacridine-4-carbonitrile (carboxamide) was shown to react with aryldiazonium salts and other electrophilic reagents in acidic and neutral media. The reactions occurred at the methine carbon atom, forming the corresponding 4-functionalized derivatives. The obtained azo compounds decomposed at 140-155°C with elimination of nitrogen and gave products formed by the reactions of radical intermediates.
