Configuration-sensitive infrared bands and vibrational assignments of S-alkyldithizones based on isotopic substitutions

By comparison of the infrared spectra of S-methyl-, S-ethyl- and S-isopropyldithizones in the solid state, the configuration-sensitive i.r. bands have been obtained for the trans-syn-s-trans and trans-anti-s-trans configurations with respect to the N=N, C=N and C-N bonds of the formazan skeleton.The vibrational assignment of S-methyldithizone has been made based on the frequency shifts on isotopic substitutions: 1,5-15N and 2,4-15N- substitutions, deuterium substitutions of the methyl group, phenyl groups and N-H group, and deuterium substitutions of both phenyl and N-H groups.
