Several α-2-hydroxy-1-naphthyl-N-alkyl/aryl-nitrones (I) have been synthesised.These undergo rearrangement in the presence of acetic anhydride to N-acetyl-N-alkyl/aryl-2-hydroxy-1-naphthalene carboxamides (II) with simultaneous acetylation of the phenolic group.The structural support for the nitrones (I) and carboxamides (II) is provided by elemental analyses and spectral data.
