The reaction of bis(halodiphenylstannyl)methanes with HMPA leads to the formation of the one-to-one complexes (Ph2XSn)2CH2*HMPA (X= Cl, Br, I).The reaction of bis-1,3-(chlorodiphenylstannyl)propane with HMPA yields the one-to-one complex (Ph2ClSnCH2)2CH2*2HMPA, whereas from bis(dibromophenylstannyl)methanes both the one-to-one and the one-to-two complexes (PhBr2Sn)2*nHMPA (n=1,2) have been isolated. The solid structure of (Ph2XSn)2CH2*HMPA (X=Cl,Br), determined by X-ray diffraction, shows for both tin atoms a distorted trigonal bipyramidal structure, one by complexation of HMPA, the other one by intramolecular coordination of a halogen atom.Temperature dependent 1H, 13C, 31P and 119Sn NMR and IR measurements prove the intramolecular mobility of these complexes.
