The deprotonation of μ-Vinyliminium ligands in diiron complexes was performed for the synthesis of mono-and polynuclear species containing novel multidentate ligands. Insertions of alkynes into the metal-carbon bond of bridging alkylidene and alkylidyne dinuclear complexes provided a synthetic pathway to the C-C bond formation in dinuclear transition-metal complexes. The reaction were carried under a nitrogen atmosphere using standard Schlenk techniques. It was observed that the resulting neutral species were not stable and rapidly evolved to give tetra-, di-, or mononuclear complexes.
