1,2-Bis(phenyltrichlorophosphino)benzene was synthesized by a 4-step process in an overall 58percent yield.Interaction of the bis(trichlorophosphorane) with the appropriate imidoylamidines afforded the novel 1,4-bisbenzene and 1,4-bisbenzene.Electron impact fragmentation patterns of these compounds could be correlated with those of the single ring analogues. The thermal and thermal oxidative stability of the phenyl-bridged dumbbells was lower than that of the corresponding monomeric mono- and diphospha-s-triazines.These materials were found to be effective in arresting the degradation of perfluoroalkylether fluids in oxidizing atmospheres in the presence of metals.
