The synthesis of the oxopentadienyl compound by chromatography on neutral deactivated alumina of Cp*Ru(1-4-μ-CH2CHCHCHOSiMe 3)Cl was studied. It was shown that the reactions always require an excess of the alkyne, and the diphenylacetylene is more selective compared to the dimethyl acetylenedicarboxylate. It was found that the diphenylacetylene derivatives are very stable, whereas the dimethylacetylenedicarboxylate analogues are less stable and can be easily hydrolyzed in solution. The Cp*Ru(pentadienyl) class of compounds was found to be capable of supporting a rich variety of substituted pentadienyl ligands, which can allow a greater understanding of the electronic nature of the pentadienyl ligands.
