PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compound capable of increasing the Δn of a liquid crystal composition by adding to the liquid crystal composition, a liquid crystal composition containing the compound and a liquid crystal display element produced by using the liquid crystal composition. SOLUTION: The compound is expressed by general formula (I) (R is a 4-12C alkenyl containing the double bond at ≥3 site; and X1 and X2 are each independently fluorine atom or hydrogen atom provided that at least one of X1 and X2 is a fluorine atom). The liquid crystal composition contains the compound, and the liquid crystal display element is produced by using the liquid crystal composition.
