The reactions of GeCl4 with α-, β-, and γ-pyridinoyl-(o-R-benzoyl)hydrazones of salicylaldehyde in benzene give chelates, which are studied by chemical analysis, spectroscopy (IR, 1H and 13C NMR), electrical conductivity measurements, mass spectrometry, and thermogravimetry. The ligands are coordinated to germanium in the tridentate chelating mode through the azomethine nitrogen atoms and the oxy and oxyazine oxygen atoms. The crystal and molecular structure of [Ge(2-NH2-Bs)2] · CH3OH is determined. Copyright
