Complex 1 can be dehydrohalogenated with NaN(SiMe3)2 to give an exceedingly reactive 14-electron species, [Rh{P(t-Bu)2CH2C6H3CH 2P(t-Bu)2}], 3, which interacts with aromatic and aliphatic hydrocarbons. Adducts of 3 can be formed with hydrogen, carbon monoxide, and ethylene. Treatment of 1 with the ylide -CH2-PMe3+ gave an adduct with a rhodium-carbon bond.
