3-Amino-2-propyl-4(3H)-quinazolinone (1) undergoes condensation with aldehydes to give 3-arylideneamino-2-propylquinazolinone derivatives (2) or 3-benzylideneamino-2-styrylguinazolinone derivative (3) depending on the reactions conditions.Compound (1) also undergoes condensation with 2,4-dinitrophenylhydrazine to give the corresponding hydrazone (4) and couples with alkaline β-naphthol after diazotisation to give the dye (5).Reactions of 1 with esters such as ethyl acetoacetate, ethyl bromoacetate and ethyl phenylacetate have also been carried out.
