PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coloring composition that makes it possible to produce a cured film having excellent heat resistance and solvent resistance, and high contrast, and provide a cured film, a color filter, a method for producing a color filter, a solid state image sensor, an image display device and a compound employing the coloring composition. SOLUTION: A coloring composition comprises a cation having a specific triarylmethane skeleton having two aryl groups through a tertiary amine, a compound having a divalent or more anion as a counter anion, and a resin. Variations in the reaction conditions during the Ullmann condensation of 4,4'-diaminobenzophenone with iodobenzene and the Goldberg diphenylamine synthesis with 4,4'-dibromobenzophenone and acetanilide or 4,4'-bis(acetamido)benzophenone and iodobenzene yielded the five possible partially and completely N-Phenylated 4,4'-diaminobenzophenones.By choice of starting materials, 4,4'-bis(phenylamino)benzophenone could be obtained in satisfactory yield.The infrared, ultraviolet, 1H and 13C nuclear magnetic resonance and mass spectra of the benzophenones are reported.
