2-Substituted 1,3-dithioisoindolines (I) react with Grignard reagents in 1:1 molar ratio to give N-substituted o-(thioacyl)thiobenzimidic acids (III).However, with excess of Grignard reagents and longer reaction period, the thiones (IV), thioanilides (VII) and monosulfides (VIII) are obtained.The dithioisoindolines (I) also react with hydrazines to give 2-aryl-1-thiono-3-iminoisoindolines (IXb,c) while with diphenyldiazomethane, 3', 3'-diphenyl-3-thiono-2-tolylspiro (Xb) and the diphenylmethylene derivative (XI) are obtained.
