Synthesis of 2-Aryl-3--4-thiazolidinones

4-(p-Aminophenyl)-2-(substituted-amino)thiazoles (I) react with aromatic aldehydes (II) in absolute ethanol in the presence of few drops of piperidine to give 2-substituted-amino-4-(p-arylideneaminophenyl)thiazoles (III), which undergo condensation with thioglycolic acid followed by cyclisation in refluxing benzene to furnish the title compounds (V).Structures are supported by elemental analyses and spectral data.
