Usage

Antimicrobial activity

Activity is that of ticarcillin , the role of the inhibitor being to restore the activity against β-lactamase-producing strains that would otherwise hydrolyze the drug.

Pharmacokinetics

Ticarcillin can be detected in tissues and interstitial fluid following parenteral administration. Penetration into bile, peritoneal fluid and pleural fluid has been demonstrated. Concentrations in blister fluid were significantly lower than those in serum. Around 60–70% of ticarcillin and 35–45% of clavulanic acid are excreted unchanged in urine during the first 6 h after administration of a single dose of the mixture.

Side effects

Adverse reactions associated with ticarcillin occur . As with co-amoxiclav, there is a risk of cholestatic jaundice . Pseudomembranous colitis has been reported.
