Substituted benzylimidazolium salts of the formula STR1 where R1, R2 and R3 are identical or different and are each hydrogen, C1 -C4 -alkyl or halogen, R4 is alkyl of 8 to 14 carbon atoms or benzyl which is unsubstituted or substituted by halogen or alkyl, R5 is hydrogen, alkyl of 1 to 8 carbon atoms, phenyl or benzyl, R6 is alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms or halogen, R7 is alkyl of 1 to 4 carbon atoms or halogen and X is an anion of an acid, in particular of a hydrohalic acid, and microbicides containing these compounds.
