Aftin-4 is an inducer of amyloid-β (1-42) (Aβ42), a peptide fragment implicated in the pathogenesis of Alzheimer's disease. It selectively increases extracellular Aβ42 over Aβ40 production in N2a-AβPP695 cells at concentrations ranging from 1 to 100 mM. In vivo, Aftin-4 induces spatial working and spatial reference memory deficits in mice, effects that are reversible with the co-administration of the γ-secretase inhibitor BMS-299,897.

Uses

Used in Pharmaceutical Research:
Aftin-4 is used as a research tool for studying the mechanisms underlying Alzheimer's disease, particularly the role of Aβ42 in the development of the condition. It helps researchers understand the molecular pathways and potential therapeutic targets for treating Alzheimer's disease.
Used in Drug Development:
Aftin-4 is used in the development of drugs targeting the γ-secretase enzyme, which is involved in the production of Aβ42. By inducing Aβ42 production, Aftin-4 aids in the evaluation of the efficacy of γ-secretase inhibitors, such as BMS-299,897, in reversing the cognitive deficits associated with Alzheimer's disease.
Used in Neuroscience:
Aftin-4 is used as a model compound in neuroscience research to investigate the effects of Aβ42 on cognitive functions, such as spatial working and spatial reference memory. This helps researchers gain insights into the neurobiological processes affected by Alzheimer's disease and develop potential therapeutic interventions.
Used in Toxicology Studies:
Aftin-4 is used in toxicology studies to evaluate the toxicity of Aβ42 in vivo. By inducing Aβ42 production and associated cognitive deficits in mice, Aftin-4 helps researchers understand the toxic effects of Aβ42 on the brain and develop strategies to mitigate these effects.

Biochem/physiol Actions

Aftin-4, an amyloid forty-two inducer, activates γ-secretase, promoting the generation of amyloid-β-1-42 (Aβ1-42) from amyloid-β protein precursor. Aftin-4 increased Aβ-1-42, but not Aβ-1-40 in mouse hipppocampus, accompanied by learning deficits and mitochondrial ultrastructural changes similar to those found in the brains of patients with AD. Aftin-4 can thus be used to induce a rapid, acute Alzheimer′s disease-like toxicity in the rodent brain.

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 866893-90-5 includes 9 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 6 digits, 8,6,6,8,9 and 3 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 9 and 0 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 866893-90:
(8*8)+(7*6)+(6*6)+(5*8)+(4*9)+(3*3)+(2*9)+(1*0)=245
245 % 10 = 5
So 866893-90-5 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
