Different forms of copper(II) and nickel(II) salicylideneglycinate (Sg(2-)) and salicylideneanthranilate (Sa(2-)) complexes have been isolated and characterized. The copper(II) complex of salicylideneglycine, CuSg . 1.5H2O, has a bluish green, monomeric planar, and a green, dimeric distorted planar modification.Formation through metal ion catalysis has been suggested for the latter. The salicylideneanthranilatocopper(II), CuSa, is dimeric and distorted planar with carboxylate bridges.Nickel(II) forms two comlpexes with salicylideneglycine, one, NiSg . 2H2O, having a 1:1 metal to ligand ratio, octahedral geometry and dimeric form, and the other Ni(HSg)2 . 2H2O, having a 1:2 metal to ligand ratio and monomeric form. The salicylideneanthranilatonickel(II), NiSa . 2H2O, is similar to the former compound of nickel(II).A statistical correlation between the structures of copper(II) complexes and their ligand field band positions has been found.
