The observed rate constants for the reaction of the anions of para-substituted benzaldoximes with O-isobutyl O'-(p-nitrophenyl) methylphosphonate in the presence of the micelles of hexadecyltrimethylammonium bromide are 200-700 times higher compared with the reactions in water. At the same time, the true rate constants of the investigated bimolecular reactions in the micellar phase are 2-3 times lower than in water on account of the unfavorable mutual orientation of the reacting particles in the micelles. The general catalytic effect of the micelles is due to the concentration of the reagents and to the decrease of the pKa value of the oximes in the micellar phase.
