Maleic anhydride reacts with LM(CO)5 (M = Cr, L = tetraazaadamantane (taad), morpholine and piperidine; M = Mo, L = taad, butyl amine, cyclohexyl amine, pyridine, morpholine, triphenylphosphine and piperidine to give bis(maleic anhydride)-aminetricarbonylmetals(0).Similar reactions with (L-L)Mo(CO)4 (L-L = o-phen and 2,2'-bipyridine) yield (L-L)(maleic anhydride)Mo(CO)3*ArCr(CO)3 (Ar = benzene, toluene, o- and p-xylene) under UV irradiation react with a benzene solution of maleic anhydride to give Ar(maleic anhydride)Cr(CO)2.IR spectra of the complexes show that maleic anhydride bonds to the metal atoms via C=C.
