870-08-6 Usage

Chemical Properties

white to almost white crystalline powder. It is practically insoluble in water but soluble in organic solvents.

Uses

Dioctyltin oxide is used as a stabilizer and as a widely applicable catalyst, especially for esterification reactions, transesterification reactions and condensation reactions. It is slightly less reactive than dibutyltin oxide, but is not subject to as many regulatory restrictions, which is why it is increasingly used. Dioctyloxotin can also be used in various chemical synthesis such as in preparation of trinuclear seven-coordinated tin complexes, having possible antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory activity.

Application

Amorphous white solid available in various particle sizes with several uses:widespread use in the aqueous cathodic electrodeposition of urethane coatings for automotive and industrial applicationsactive transesterification catalyst for methacrylate esters that are used in the water treatment markethigh temperature transesterification reactions for the production of coating resins and specialty monomeric estersintermediate for heat stabilizers

Flammability and Explosibility

Nonflammable

Check Digit Verification of cas no

The CAS Registry Mumber 870-08-6 includes 6 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 3 digits, 8,7 and 0 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 0 and 8 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 870-08:
(5*8)+(4*7)+(3*0)+(2*0)+(1*8)=76
76 % 10 = 6
So 870-08-6 is a valid CAS Registry Number.

Process for the fractional production of organotin compounds

-

, (2008/06/13)

A process for the fractional production of mono-, di- or triorganotin oxides which comprises subjecting an organotin halide to hydrolysis, separating the hydrolysis reaction mixture into three layers, and thereby obtaining the desired organotin oxide-containing layer as a triorganotin oxide--containing layer substantially free of mono- and/or diorganotin oxide, a monoorganotin oxide-containing aqueous layer, or a diorganotin oxide-containing layer substantially free of mono- and/or triorganotin oxide, and then recovering the tri-, mono- or diorganotin oxides from the desired organotin oxide-containing layers.

Novel diorganotin maleate half esters and process for preparing same

, (2008/06/13)

Organotin compounds with low tin content suitable as stabilizers for halogen containing resins e.g. polyvinyl chloride are of formula EQU1 where R1 and R2 are C1-20 alkyl, cycloalkyl or phenyl groups, Q1 represents a radical selected from the group consisting of EQU2 Q2 is a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group containing between 1 and 6 carbon atoms or the group --CH2 Z3. Z1, z2, and Z3 are individually selected from the group of groups consisting of EQU3 and EQU4 R3 is an alkyl group containing between 1 and 20 carbon atoms, a substituted or unsubstituted phenyl group or a substituted or unsubstituted alkylphenyl group. R4 is an alkyl grup containing between 1 and 20 carbon atoms, a substituted phenylakly or unsubstituted phenylalkyl group wherein the alkyl portion of the radical contains between 1 and 6 carbon atoms. R5 is an alkyl group containing between 1 and 20 carbon atoms, a substituted phenyl, unsubstituted phenyl, substituted alkylphenyl or unsubstituted alkylphenyl group. R6 represents a single bond, an alkylene group containing between 1 and 20 carbon atoms, an alkenylene group containing between 2 and 20 carbon atoms, a substituted phenylene or an unsubstituted phenylene group. R7 represents a single bond, an alkylene group containing between 1 and 20 carbon atoms, an alkenylene group containing between 2 and 20 carbon atoms, a substituted phenylene group or an unsubstituted phenylene group. R8 represents an alkylene group containing between 1 and 20 carbon atoms, said alkylene group being either unsubstituted or containing at least one phenyl group as a substituent, an alkenylene group containing between 2 and 20 carbon atoms or a cycloalkylene group containing between 5 and 6 carbon atoms. R9 represents an alkylene group containing between 1 and 20 carbon atoms. n is an integer between 1 and 6 inclusive. Y is of the formula EQU5 --SR4, EQU6 or Y and the aforementioned group EQU7 together constitute a divalent group radical of the formula EQU8 wherein both free valences of said divalent group are bonded to the same tin atom.
