It is a colorless, highly reactive, and pyrophoric liquid, which means it ignites spontaneously upon contact with air. DBAH is widely used as a reducing agent in organic synthesis, particularly in the reduction of carbonyl compounds to form alcohols. It is also employed as a catalyst in various chemical reactions, such as olefin polymerization and the production of certain pharmaceuticals. Due to its high reactivity and potential hazards, dibutylhydroaluminium must be handled with extreme caution and stored under an inert atmosphere, such as nitrogen or argon, to prevent ignition or explosion.
