The platinum(I) dimers Pt2X2(μ-dppm)2 (X = Cl, I) react with p-tolyl isocyanide (CNR) under various conditions to give Pt2X2(μ-CNR)(μ-dppm)2, [Pt2X(CNR)(μ-dppm)2]+, [Pt2(CNR)2(μ-dppm)2]2+, and [Pt2(μ-CNR)(CNR)2(μ-dppm)2]2+. The complexes with bridging isocyanides undergo facile N-protonation and alkylation to yield the series of complexes [Pt2L2(μ-CNRR′)(μ-dppm)2] n+ (L = X, R′ = H, Me, n = 1; L = CNR, R′ = H, Me, n = 3). All structural assignments are made on the basis of vibrational, 1H NMR, and 31P NMR spectroscopy.
