The invention relates to the liquid crystal field, in particular to a novel dibenzofuran negative dielectric anisotropy compound, a preparation method and application thereof. The liquid crystal compound has a structure shown as general formula (I), wherein R represents alkyl or alkoxy with 1-12 carbon atoms. The chemical host structure of the liquid crystal compound provided by the invention is dibenzofuran, and the structure itself has large dielectric anisotropy. The liquid crystal compound provided by the invention has the advantages of extremely high negative dielectric anisotropy, higherclearing point, relatively lower rotary viscosity, good liquid crystal intersolubility and the like. The composition using the liquid crystal compound can effectively reduce the driving voltage, improves the response speed of the liquid crystal display device, and at the same time has the characteristics of moderate optical anisotropy value, high charge retention rate, etc.
