The preparation of a range of (3-thienyl)tin halides, (3-C4H3SnX4-n (n=2 or 3; X=Cl, Br or I), and some complexes with donor ligands, is described.Moessbauer spectroscopy indicates that the halides have unassociated, tetrahedral, structures. The related 2-thienyl- (and 2-furyl-) tin halides have also been prepared and characterised by Moessbauer spectroscopy, but are much less stable.
