In the alkylation of dimedone by 1,4-dibromobutane and also of 1,3-indanedione by 1,2-dibromoethane in DMSO in the presence of an excess of potassium carbonate the main direction of the reaction is C,C-cycloalkylation.The analogous reactions of dimedone with 1,2-dibromoethane and with 1,3-dibromopropane take place by O-alkylation.
