A five-step conversion of IrCl(CO)(PPh3)2 into IrCl(CSe)(PPh3)2 via Ir(η2-CSe2)Cl(CO)(PPh3)2 is described.IrCl(CSe)(PPh3)2 is oxidized by Cl2 to IrCl3(CSe)(PPh3)2 and by O2 to Ir(η2-O2)Cl(CSe)(PPh3)2, and reaction with Ag+ in MeCN gives +.NaBH4 in the presence of PPh3 reduces IrCl(CSe)(PPh3)2 completely to IrH2(SeMe)(PPh3)3 and the η2-CSe2 adduct, Ir(η2-CSe2)Cl(CSe)(PPh3)2, with MeI forms the metallacycle .
