From an extract of the roots of Catharanthus trichophyllus (Apocynaceae) an alkaloid, trichophylline, has been isolated which is a new skeletal variation of the Aspidosperma framework. The structure was solved by single crystal X-ray crystallography. Sodium borohydride reduction afforded a novel cyclized product.
