A one-dimensional coordination polymer involving Tl...C interactions, [Tl(μ4-dpa)]n(Hdpa = diphenylacetic acid), was synthesized and characterized. The single-crystal X-ray data of the compound show that the coordination number of the TlI ions is five and that Tl centers have an irregular coordination sphere containing a 'configurationally active' lone pair/hexahapto (η6) interaction, thus resulting in a total hapticity of eleven for a TlC6O5 environment.
