The preparation of the orange diamagnetic compounds X (R = Me or Et, X = BF4(1-), PF6(1-), or ClO4(1-); R = i-Pr, X = BF4(1-)) from the reaction of cis- complexes and HX in acetone is described.Details of the (1)H and (13)C- n.m.r., i.r., and electronic spectra of the complexes are presented. The monomeric complex cations possess a rigid pentagonal-bipyramidal geometry in solution at room temperature. The complex (1+) catalytically converts PPh3 into OPPh3 an air, gives (1+) with PhNCO, undergoes replacement of one S2CNEt2(1-) ligand with Cl(1-) and S2(2-), and yields upon reduction.
