Novel Acidic Complexones According to the Stereology Concept

Under the viewpoint of the stereology concept, the new acidic complex ligands 1d - 3d have been synthesized.The 4,4'-disubstituted complexone 4d, analogous to 4d, analogous to 2d, has been prepared for comparison.The dissociation- and complex formation constants (KK2) towards the alkali earth metal ions have been measured by potentiometric titration.The complexones 1d - 3d show higher complex constants compared with (benzylimino)diacetic acid; this gives evidence for the complexation of one metal ion occurring through cooperative binding by both iminodiacetic acid f unctions of one molecule of the complexones 1d - 3d.Apart from the peak selectivity of the complexone 2d towards barium ions, the ligands 2d - 4d exhibit a selectivity pattern similar to (benzylimino)diacetic acid.In contrast, the tolan ligand 1d yields the strongest complexes with Mg2+, a slight increase of stability is observed in passing from Sr2+ to Ba2+.
