9005-46-3 Usage
Description
Sodium caseinate is the sodium salt of casein, a high-quality milk protein. It is a water-soluble emulsifier with functional properties such as water binding, emulsification, whitening, and whipping. It is also a protein nutrition fortifier and is involved in the normal metabolism of the body.
Uses
Used in Food Industry:
Sodium caseinate is used as a protein source and for its functional properties in various food products such as coffee whiteners, nondairy whipped toppings, processed meat, and desserts.
Used in Pharmaceutical and Nutritional Applications:
Sodium caseinate is used in the preparation of casein-based diets to investigate the nutritional effects of vitamin E in diets for Litopenaeus vannamei postlarvae.
Used in Enzyme Activity Assays:
Sodium caseinate serves as a substrate in an assay to determine the activity of a three-enzyme solution containing trypsin, chymotrypsin, and peptidase.
Used in Animal Nutrition Research:
Sodium caseinate is used in studies to investigate the effects of bovine somatotropin (bST) administration and abomasal casein infusion on nitrogen metabolism in Holstein steers.
Used in Immunoblotting:
Sodium caseinate is used as a constituent of blocking solutions in immunoblotting, a technique used to detect specific proteins in a mixture.
Used in Adhesives, Binders, and Protective Coatings:
The commercial product of casein, from which sodium caseinate is derived, is used in adhesives, binders, protective coatings, and other products.
Used in Cereals:
Sodium caseinate is used in bread, biscuits, and other cereals to enhance their texture and nutritional value.
Biochem/physiol Actions
α-Casein can be an immunogen in young children, and anti-α-casein antibodies have strong cross-reactivity with insulin. This effect can explain the uncommon insulin autoimmunity, but it does not appear to progress to Type I diabetes.
Safety Profile
Questionable carcinogen with experimental tumorigenic data. When heated to decomposition it emits toxic fumes of NanO.
Check Digit Verification of cas no
The CAS Registry Mumber 9005-46-3 includes 7 digits separated into 3 groups by hyphens. The first part of the number, starting from the left, has 4 digits, 9,0,0 and 5 respectively; the second part has 2 digits, 4 and 6 respectively.
Calculate Digit Verification of CAS Registry Number 9005-46:
(6*9)+(5*0)+(4*0)+(3*5)+(2*4)+(1*6)=83
83 % 10 = 3
So 9005-46-3 is a valid CAS Registry Number.
