The higher alcohols formed by condensation of butanol during production of 2-ethylhexanol are used in industry for synthesis of pasticizers and extractants, and as flotation reagents. Some isododecyl alcohol is isolated from them by distillation, but the bottoms, containing isoalcohols with 12 and 16 carbon atoms in the molecule, are not utilized. In an experimental study, a mixture of higher alcohols was separated by distillation and each component was characterized. The mixture contained 2,4-diethyloctanol and 2,4,6-triethyldecanol. Chromatographic analysis was carried out for characterization of each component.
